Update on the funk flex vs interscope situation

Hip-Hop radio station Hot 97 representatives have stepped in to deny claims made by DJ Funkmaster Flex that he would no longer play records released from Interscope Records, home to rappers such as Eminem, 50 Cent, Dr. Dre, Soulja Boy and artists such as Lady Ga Ga and Akon.

On Flex’s show on the 21st April 2009, Funk Flex blasted executive Nino Cuccinello at Interscope Records/A&M/Geffen.

“New York I am talking to a person who makes decisions who does things up there, moving funny style,” Funkmaster Flex fumed. “Nino is moving so bad. If you are anywhere in the tri-state area, I’m talking about people New York that control the music business and they control certain artists that they do not want you to see, but they want the pop stations to have. This is where I come in.”

Flex went on to apologise to Interscope executive Step Johnson, and then stated that he would no longer be playing music from Eminem or Dr. Dre.
Hot 97’s Program Director E-Bro Darden stated in the New York Daily News, that Flex’s statements were entertaining radio that had simply gone too far.
“We’ve never held back on a whole label’s music,” Darden told The New York Daily News. “And we won’t.”

Darden also stated that Hot 97 maintained good relationships with a number of labels and joked, “we had to muzzle Flex, … people know a lot of what he says is showmanship, but that went too far.”

Back to your R.O.O.T.S

Just got Flo-Rida's new album, R.O.O.T.S. After my first listen it's.........meh, its alright, im sure it will be one of those albums that grow on ya. Its a very very poppy album. This album could be alot like T.I's albums for me.

When i first heard KING, didnt really like it. After 2 or 3 listens i love it. Same story with T.I vs TIP and Paper Trail.

This album has some really catchy tracks though. Songs like right round, Gotta get it and Jump are catchy. Theres some songs here that would sound great turned up loud on a good system, songs like Touch me and Available.

There aint that many features on the album though. Nelly Furtado, Ne-yo and Akon feature on it to name a few. The song Jump features Nelly Furtado on it. And to be honest its a pointless song but the hook is catchy.

To be honest the two singles off the album have had their hooks stolen comepletly off previous hits. The first single, Right round, was pete burns' hit way back and the second single "sugar" has the hook from that song "im blue".

I really enjoyed the first album from Flo-Rida but this album has failed overall but there are some nice tunes on it. Worth a listen but wont go down as a classic.

Funkmaster Flex vs Interscope Records

FunkMaster Flex from Hot 97 is boycotting any music coming from Interscope. From now on according to him Eminem gets no airplay. Dr. Dre gets no airplay-- if he ever releases Detox.
He said, "Understand it,Interscope Records, nothin is spinnin."
The whole thing was about Nino and the way he was treating his assistants at interscope. Apparently Flex wasnt too happy with it.
"Nino, you got 24 hours to fix yourself!" says Flex. "Or this goes some place else tomorrow!"

Apparently there's a head at Interscope who makes some heavy decisions, and Nino has rubbed off on not only Flex wrong, but some others at Hot 97 as well. Because according to Flex, there are "people who control the music business. And they control certain artists that they do not want you to see. But they want the pop stations to have. That's where I come in. I'm the dude they pull out the closet to deal with this."

So this was the other day. Wonder if he followed through with the threats since then? more news to come on this...
